2-Day Jbel Toubkal Trek from Imlil to North Africa's Highest Peak

The hiking tour starts from the Berber village of Imlil (1600 m). The interesting trail along the noisy Toubkal River offers beautiful views of the Imlil Valley and the Atlas summits as well.

Along the way, there are several lodges with food, sweet snacks, and fresh natural orange juice. Waterfalls, wild mountain goats, and an incredible atmosphere will take your breath away.

After 5 hours of easy walking, reach Refuge Toubkal - a mountain house with everything a tired mountaineer needs, including comfortable rooms, showers, and delicious food.

Take a good rest before the ascent to the highest point in North Africa.

Get up early in the morning to avoid the strong African sun.

The trail goes right above Refuge Toubkal. At the beginning, it is very steep, but later you will forget your pain and enjoy the panorama of the western Toubkal massif with its interesting rocky peaks.

After 2.5 hours, reach Tizi Toubkal, where the trail turns left.

See the summit rising proudly above Lake Ifni, which lies under the eastern Toubkal cliff and can be visited on another organized tour.

In the next 30 minutes, stand by the big iron pyramid on Jbel Toubkal, the summit of the gorgeous Atlas mountain. Your biggest reward will be the magnificent view: the Anti-Atlas mountain range, the famous Sahara Desert, the city of Marrakesh, the direction of the Atlantic Ocean, and several lower but very attractive Atlas summits, including Timesguida, Ras, Akiud, Afella, and Tadat.

After enjoying the view and taking photos for an everlasting memory, descend back the same way to Refuge Toubkal (1.30 hours).

At the house, have a lunch break and then go back down to Imlil (4 hours).

In Imlil, it is possible to buy original Berber souvenirs, followed by organized transport back to Marrakesh.
