The itinerary

1
Day 01

Fes to Merzouga via Azrou, Midelt and the Ziz Valley

  • Depart from Fes at 8 o'clock and travel via Azrou, where you will see Barbary apes in the forests of the Middle Atlas. Pass through Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco," and stop in the cedar forests of Azrou to hand-feed the monkeys.
  • Have lunch in Midelt, the "apple capital," then continue over the Tizi-n-Talgoumt Pass and through the Ziz Valley, which is particularly well known for its palm trees and the length of its oasis. Along the road, you will see innumerable "ksars," small villages made up of individual houses.
  • Reach Er Rachidia and Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils. In the afternoon, prepare for your camel departure.
  • Once at the bivouac, take a camel ride to watch the sunset from the top of the dunes.

Dinner and overnight stay in tents at the camp.

Day 02

Merzouga to Dades Canyon via Toudgha Gorges

  • Watch the spectacle of the sunrise.

  • After breakfast, walk in the dunes before leaving for the Toudgha Gorges for lunch. The road passes through Tinjdad and the Toudgha Valley. Here, there are plenty of opportunities to walk, such as along the river through the gardens or up the road on the other side of the gorges.

  • Later, continue to the Dades Valley and the Dades Gorges for the night inside the big canyon of Dades.

3
Day 03

Dades Canyon to Marrakech via Skoura and Ait Ben Haddou

  • Take a morning walk in the gorge and follow the Dades Valley through El Kelaa Magona and the oasis of Skoura. The route continues to Ksar Ait Ben Haddou, a World Heritage Site and the backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters. It is the most famous ksar in Morocco.

  • From there, the road continues to Telouet along the newly asphalted road. Telouet is set right in the midst of the mountains and was once the seat of the last Pasha of Marrakech, El Glaoui, from where the highest pass in Africa, Tizi-n-Tichka, was controlled.

  • At the end of the afternoon, arrive in Marrakech, where the drop-off is planned.
