5-Day Desert Tour from Fez to Marrakech with Erg Chebbi Camel Ride

• Depart from Fez at 8 o'clock, travelling via Azrou, and see Barbary apes in the forests of the Middle Atlas, the "Switzerland of Morocco," and the cedar forests of Azrou, where you can stop to hand-feed the monkeys.

• Stop for lunch in Midelt, the "apple capital."

• Continue over the Tizi-n-Talgoumt Pass and through the Ziz Valley, which is particularly well known for its palm trees and the length of the oasis. All along the road, there are innumerable "ksars," small villages of individual houses.

• From here, reach Er Rachidia and then Erfoud, famous for its date festival and fossils, before continuing to the famous dunes of Erg Chebbi.

• After a welcoming glass of tea in a guest house near the dunes, take a walk in the dunes.

• Witness the sunset from the top of the dunes (250 m).

Dinner and overnight at the guest house.

• Today, explore the desert region. Make a circuit of the desert dunes and see the nomads' way of life and the amazing changing contrasts of the desert.

• Visit the "black village" of Khamlia to see the Gnawa musicians.

• Have a traditional Berber pizza for lunch.

• In the afternoon, prepare for departure on the camels.

• Once at the bivouac, take a camel ride to watch the sunset from the top of the dunes.

• Back at the bivouac, relax with dinner and an overnight stay in tents at the camp.

• Wake up early and watch the spectacle of the sunrise, when the colour of the dunes and the play of shadows create an awesome sight.

• After breakfast, walk in the dunes before leaving for the Toudgha Gorges for lunch. The road passes through Tinjdad and the Toudgha Valley.

• Here, there are plenty of opportunities to walk, such as along the river through the gardens or up the road on the other side of the gorges.

• Later, continue to the Dades Valley and the Dades Gorges for the night inside the big canyon of Dades (guest house).

• After breakfast, a walk in the Dades Gorges is scheduled.

• Back in the car, continue to Ouarzazate, going off-road along the Boutaghrar piste and Iat Mraou Village to visit Berber nomads in their caves and partake in a glass of herbal tea with them.

• From here, continue through the Valley of the Roses, famous for its Rose Festival from the 20th to the 25th of May, and past the kasbahs of Amridil in Skoura Palm, then continue to Ouarzazate via the big lake of El Mansour Eddahbi.

Dinner and overnight in a traditional riad.

• After breakfast, continue to Ksar Aït Benhaddou, a World Heritage Site and the backdrop for many Hollywood blockbusters. It is the most famous ksar in Morocco.

• From there, the road continues to Telouet along the newly asphalted road. Telouet is set right in the midst of the mountains and was once the seat of the last Pasha of Marrakech, El Glaoui, from where the highest pass in Africa, Tizi-n-Tichka, was controlled.

• At the end of the afternoon, arrive in Marrakech and proceed with the drop-off at your accommodation.
