The journey
Set out from Schull on a scenic ferry journey through Roaring Water Bay to Cape Clear Island, Ireland’s southernmost inhabited island. This self-guided experience gives you time to explore the island at your own pace, with marked walking trails, rich local culture, and historic sites including ancient standing stones, a Napoleonic Tower, Dún an Óir Castle, a 12th century church, and the memorial to the 1979 Fastnet Yacht Race Disaster.
After free time on Cape Clear Island, re-board the ferry and head further into the Wild Atlantic Way for a sea-state-dependent cruise around Fastnet Rock Lighthouse. As you circle this iconic offshore landmark, onboard audio brings its history to life while you take in dramatic ocean scenery and photo opportunities. Keep watch along the way for whales and dolphins, which are sometimes spotted en route.
