The journey
Cava d'Ispica is one of Sicily's greatest naturalistic-archaeological sites: a 13 km river valley cutting through the south-eastern side of the island between Modica, Ispica, and Rosolini. Its fascinating landscape, history, geolocation, type of rock, and proximity to the sea made it one of the largest rocky settlements in Sicily and a destination for different peoples throughout history. On this ring route, you will hike along a panoramic path across the valley, visit landmarks such as the Calicantone Necropolis and the Castello Sicano, and take a break in a stunning hut between the canyons for a quick lunch if arranged in advance. Carved into the rock for fifteen centuries, this is one of the most fascinating places in eastern Sicily.
