Day 01

Amman and Salt Heritage Tour

  • Meet the driver in the morning in your hotel lobby or residence, then drive downtown.

  • Start the day with a city tour of Jordan's capital. Amman, already mentioned in the Bible as Rabbath Ammon, is a bustling modern city, while its historical sites are located downtown.

  • See the Citadel, with remains dating from the Roman to the early Islamic period.

  • Explore the Archaeological Museum.

  • Visit the 2nd-century Roman Theatre, which has 6,000 seats, and enjoy time to stroll through Jabal Amman, one of the oldest parts of the city.

  • Drive for about 45 minutes to the town of Salt. Walk along Hammam Street to see highlights of 19th-century architecture, with long-arched windows set along picturesque narrow streets.

  • Continue to the Abu Jaber mansion, built between 1892 and 1906 and reputed to be the finest example of a 19th-century merchant house in the region. The building now houses the Historic Old Salt Museum, which recounts the golden age of Salt from the end of the 19th century until the 1930s.

  • Transfer back to your hotel or residence in Amman.
