Explore Hiroshima Peace Park and Its Historic Landmarks

• On this tour, you will visit the Hiroshima Peace Park and take a closer look at the past, present, and peaceful vision of this historic city. Begin the tour from the downtown area and walk towards the 'ground zero' of the atomic detonation: Shima Hospital. Learn more about the events of that fateful day in 1945, and your guide will show you the memorial plaque that marks the exact spot of the explosion.
• Moving on, make your way through the Hondori shopping street and pass the Rest House to reach the Hiroshima Peace Memorial. Also known as the Atomic Bomb Dome, it preserves the memory of over 140,000 people who died in the bombing and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
• To its east is Orizuru Tower, which you will also visit. The tower is named for its resemblance to a folded paper crane, a popular symbol of peace.
• Next, proceed to one of the most well-known symbols of Hiroshima - the Aioi Bridge, which was the original target for the bomb, as its T-shape is clearly visible from above. After exploring this site, take a look at Hiroshima's tram system - did you know that tram services resumed a mere three days after the bombing?
