Visit The 2000-Year-Old Jewish Ghetto In Rome
- In this tour, we will discover one of Rome's most interesting neighbourhoods: the Jewish Ghetto. For more than two millennia, starting in the 2nd Century BC during the Republic, the Jewish community in Rome - the oldest in all of Europe - has shaped the city's history and built it up to the marvellous traditions of the Capital.
- As we venture into the ghetto, we will learn how its historical significance peeks through even today. Our tour will also include visits to some nearby attractions.
- We will see Tiber Island, the only volcanic island in the city, where a temple of Aesculapius, the God of medicine, had been built in the 3rd Century B.C. and later destroyed to house the church of St. Bartholomew.
- You will then proceed to Trastevere, a charming neighbourhood located on the west bank of the Tiber River in Rome, Italy. The neighbourhood is known for its narrow cobbled streets, medieval buildings, and lively piazzas filled with bars and restaurants.
