Walking Through Ferrara's Renaissance and Medieval Heart

  • On this tour, we will walk through the city alleys, starting from the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a beautiful Renaissance masterpiece.
  • We will admire Quadrivio Degli Angeli (The Angels' Crossroad), a palace with a facade covered by 8000 marble ashlars in a pyramid shape, located at the centre of the most important crossroad of Ferrara.
  • Later, leaving the 16th century behind us, we will move towards the Middle Ages and make our way to one of Ferrara's best-known monuments: the Este Family Castle, with its moat and towers dating back to 1385. These were renewed over the centuries as a court residence with marble balconies, a terrace, and a beautiful courtyard.
  • Not far from the castle, there is the 12th-century cathedral complex for us to explore. The ground level of the cathedral's south side faces the town square, Piazza Trento e Trieste. It is occupied by the unique Loggia dei Merciai (Merchants' Loggia), with medieval shops that we will get to browse through.
  • We will also pass by the narrow streets and alleys of the Ancient Jewish Ghetto, a historic city area.
  • Finally, we will make our way around Ferrara's city walls, the perfect place to end the tour and beloved by citizens for their magical atmosphere.
