Day 01

Walking Through Ferrara's Renaissance and Medieval Heart

On this tour, we will walk through the city alleys, starting from the Palazzo dei Diamanti, a beautiful Renaissance masterpiece.
We will admire Quadrivio Degli Angeli (The Angels' Crossroad), a palace with a facade covered by 8000 marble ashlars in a pyramid shape, located at the centre of the most important crossroad of Ferrara.
Later, leaving the 16th century behind us, we will move towards the Middle Ages and make our way to one of Ferrara's best-known monuments: the Este Family Castle, with its moat and towers dating back to 1385. These were renewed over the centuries as a court residence with marble balconies, a terrace, and a beautiful courtyard.
Not far from the castle, there is the 12th-century cathedral complex for us to explore. The ground level of the cathedral's south side faces the town square, Piazza Trento e Trieste. It is occupied by the unique Loggia dei Merciai (Merchants' Loggia), with medieval shops that we will get to browse through.
We will also pass by the narrow streets and alleys of the Ancient Jewish Ghetto, a historic city area.
Finally, we will make our way around Ferrara's city walls, the perfect place to end the tour and beloved by citizens for their magical atmosphere.
