Heritage Walk Through Cagliari's Castello Quarter
- Meet your tour guide at Cristina Gate to begin the tour. Start by learning about the history of Cagliari, from its founding to the creation of its future historic quarter in medieval times, while enjoying a beautiful panoramic view over part of the city.
- Enter the historic quarter of Castello (Quartiere Castello), where the monuments along the route will be explained. Among them is the Tower of San Pancrazio, the tallest building in all of Cagliari, along with some unsuspected secrets hidden in plain sight beneath the quarter itself. You will also stop at other panoramic viewpoints that offer the chance to talk about additional historical places and events connected to Cagliari.
- Arrive at Piazza Palazzo, where the history of the surrounding buildings will be explained.
- Visit the beautiful Cathedral of Santa Maria. Learn about its history and features before entering the fascinating Martyrs' Crypt, built in the 17th century and housing more than 170 relics of Christian martyrs.
- Continue to the Viceroy Palace, where its history will be told. The rooms open to visitors will be shown, and the most important personalities portrayed in the paintings inside the palace rooms will be explained.
- Move on to visit the Jewish ghetto of Castello and learn about its history. See from the outside the former synagogue, now the church of Santa Croce, and admire another panoramic view of Cagliari from the Bastion of Santa Croce. There will be a short break at the bar in front of the bastion.
- See the Tower of the Elephant from the outside and hear about its features. Then continue to the Bastion of Saint Remy, where you will learn why it was built and what its function is. From here, enjoy the best and most complete panoramic view that Cagliari currently offers.
- Finally, descend from the main entrance of the Bastion, where you may have the chance to take photos of its monumental entrance.
