The itinerary

1

Day 01

Trek to the Plateau and Schomburgk Peak

• Meet the tour representative in Lethem and leave for Kumu village.
• Pick up the local guides from the village and drive down to the foot of the mountains.
• Start the trek up the side of the Kanuku Mountains, with the goal of reaching the plateau. This area has streaming creeks and flat ground where we can camp.
• Continue up to Schomburgk Peak. After camp is established, set off to reach the peak and experience the sunset over the Rupununi Savannah. Spend time at the top taking pictures before descending before the last light.

Day 02

Sunrise, Wildlife, and Creekside Relaxation

• Set off to walk up Schomburgk Peak before first light.
• See the sunrise over the savannah and then spend some time at the top exploring. Cock-of-the-rock birds are known to be found there and are mainly active during the morning hours.
• Relax at the camp during midday next to the creek. This gives you a chance to bathe and cool off before getting ready to visit the top once again in the afternoon.
• Go out after dinner and try to explore the area around the mountain creek.

Day 03

Descend the Mountain and Return

• Have breakfast, pack up camp, and get ready to descend.
• Descend the mountain to reach the foot.
• Board the pick-up at the foot of the mountain to take you back to the stay.
