Day 01
Trek Through the Toubkal Massif Valleys
- Start your hike east towards Tizi n'Tamatert (2272 m), passing through fields of wheat and orchards of walnut, apple, and cherry trees until you reach the village of Tamatert (1810 m).
- After the village, follow a path up through pine and juniper woods and stop at the Tizi to admire the Imlil and Imenane Valleys. The latter is dotted with many terraced Berber villages tucked precariously onto the slopes around you. Along the southern horizon, take in Adrar n'Oukaimeden (3268 m), almost as high as the Rockies, as well as the high peaks of Tizi n'Eddi (2928 m) and Jbel Angour (3616 m).
- Continue hiking along the slopes of the Tamatert Valley until you reach Amghedoul, where you will stop for your field picnic, surrounded on all sides by the Toubkal Massif range.
- Once refreshed, set off back to Douar Samra, first towards Tacheddirt, the oldest Berber village in this once-remote area, then via Ouaneskra and the other side of the valley. Pass through the villages of Tamegguist and Tinghourine beneath the stark peaks of Jbel Bou Iguenouane (3882 m), Tizi n'Likemt (3615 m), Aksoual (3842 m), and Azrou n'Tamadot (3664 m), before returning to your accommodation.
