Connect with your tour guide at Sant'Apollinare in Classe to begin the itinerary. The tour starts at 14:30, 15:30, or 16:30.

Head to the Tomb of Dante, the Arian Baptistery, Holy Spirit Church, and Piazza del Popolo.

Then roam across the main square, enjoy a 15-minute coffee break, and take a short 15-minute walk with a stop at Byron House.

The tour ends with a visit to the Church of San Vitale, the Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, and the Holy Cross Basilica, with about one hour dedicated to this final visit.

Know before you go

• It is a private guided walking tour with a total stroll of 1 km, starting from Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and continuing as far as San Vitale. We will stop along the way to explain and visit monuments as James did. Ravenna is an open-air museum, a unique city that bears witness to the history of the 5th-7th centuries (Late Antiquity). We will also have a small refreshment in a cosy coffee shop.
• It is advisable to read the "Ravenna" chapter in Italian Hours.
• For a more relaxed experience, it is better to spend a night in Ravenna. I will pick you up on foot if your hotel is within the city centre. It is also highly recommended to have dinner or lunch at the historical inn "Locanda Storica" - "Antica Trattoria al Gallo 1909".
