Day 01

Pompeii Walking Tour from Porta Marina to the Forum

• Meet your guide at the meeting point, Piazza Esedra (Esedra Square), also called Porta Marina Inferiore (Lower Marina Gate).
• Proceed to the ticket office to buy tickets, or skip this step if you already have them.
• Begin your 2-hour walking tour of Pompeii.
• Visit the Quadriporticus of the theatres and the related theatres open at the time, as some may be temporarily closed for performances.
• Reach Pompeii's main street, Stabia Road.
• Visit an ancient rich or middle-class house.
• Receive an explanation of the city's water system, including the aqueduct, pipes, and fountains.
• Visit the local house of tolerance (brothel) and, if possible, one of the public spas.
• Arrive at the main Roman square, the Forum.
• Take a photo in front of Vesuvius.
• See the Basilica and the Temple of Venus.
• End the tour.

Know before you go

• Reaching the site is very easy. If you are arriving by car via the highway, take the Pompei Ovest (West) exit from Naples or the Pompei Est (East) exit from Salerno.
• There are also two train stations operated by two different railway companies. From Naples Central Station, you can take the regional train called "Rock," operated by Trenitalia, toward Salerno. Get off at Pompei, and from there you can reach the Amphitheater entrance of Pompeii in about 10 minutes. Alternatively, from Naples or Sorrento, you can take the Circumvesuviana train to "Pompei Villa dei Misteri," which is close to Porta Marina Superiore and Porta Marina Inferiore.
• There is a possibility of extending the tour from 2 hours to 4 or 6 hours maximum (charges apply), or remaining inside the ruins on your own without the guide to explore the large excavated area.
