Know before you go

  • Palazzo Vecchio is the political symbol of Florence, and its original project is attributed to Arnolfo di Cambio. In 1299, Arnolfo designed a solid fortress that later became the house of Cosimo de' Medici, the first Grand Duke of Tuscany.
  • The Church of San Lorenzo was the church of the Medici until they resided in the palace on Via Larga, today Via Cavour, and subsequently became the family mausoleum until the extinction of the family.
