Day 01
Piazzale Michelangelo, Porte Sante Cemetery, and San Miniato al Monte
- We'll meet at the bronze replica of David in Piazzale Michelangelo.
- After enjoying the view of the city and taking some pictures, we'll walk to the nearby area of San Miniato al Monte.
- Your guide will give you a historical introduction to the area and the monumental cemetery.
- Then, we'll visit the Porte Sante Cemetery, focusing on its most beautiful chapels and statues, as well as the local celebrities buried there, such as Carlo Collodi, the writer of Pinocchio, and Pellegrino Artusi, the godfather of Italian cuisine.
- After the visit to the cemetery, we'll enter the church of San Miniato al Monte, founded in 1018. Your guide will tell you the history of this crucial medieval church and show you the essential works of art housed there.
