Drive from Cusco to Checacupe and continue to the village of Palccoyo for an exciting hike to the Rainbow Mountain of Palccoyo, where you can see three colourful mountains, with the main one being the most attractive. Also visit the forest of stones, which forms a beautiful landscape on this full-day excursion.

Upon arrival, we will see various colourful mountains, as well as the stone forest and its outstanding rock formations.

The itinerary

Day 01

Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain and Stone Forest Excursion

• We will pick you up from your hotel between 6:30 am and 7:00 am to begin our trip south of Cusco.
• Travel for approximately 4 hours to the community of Palcoyo along a trail, passing by the Red River and enjoying the unique landscapes of the area. Take in the views of the small terraces where agriculture is still practised.
• Upon arrival, we will see various colourful mountains, as well as the stone forest and its outstanding rock formations.
• We will have 1 hour to enjoy the scenery surrounding the Palcoyo mountain range.
• After our visit, we will return to Cusipata to enjoy a delicious lunch.
• Then, we will return to the city of Cusco, where we will arrive at approximately 6:00 pm.

What to bring

• Wear sneakers, light shoes, or tennis shoes.
• Drink plenty of fluids during your excursions.
• Bring a raincoat (long poncho) in the rainy season: October, November, January, February, and March.
• Bring warm clothes for the nights in May, June, and July.
• Use sunscreen and a wide-brimmed hat on sunny days for all excursions.
• Bring plastic bags so you can keep your trash and leave it in the right place.
• Carry a small backpack for your personal items if necessary.
