Walking Through Dante's Florence

  • Meet your tour guide at the Bargello Palace and admire its beautiful loggia, courtyard, and selected room. It was the first civil palace in Florence, and despite the modifications made over the years, its typical medieval features still make it look like a castle, with a fortified tower that attracts visitors' attention even from the outside. Inside this palace, Dante was condemned to perpetual exile in 1302, and in 1840, the oldest portrait of Dante came to light here.
  • Continue walking through the narrow alleys where Dante most likely spent time with friends, lovers, and enemies. In 1865, on the 6th centenary of Dante's birth, one of the richest museums in town was opened. Its collection ranges from 13th- to 16th-century sculptures to Renaissance masterpieces by Michelangelo, Donatello, Ammannati, Cellini, and many more.
  • Visit the Badia Fiorentina church, where Dante's Divina Commedia was read to the public, and walk beyond the old city walls.
  • See Dante's statue in Santa Croce Square and learn what Piazza della Signoria was like during Dante's time.
  • Visit the Santa Margherita church and Dante's homes.
  • Go to Ognissanti church, a Franciscan church that houses famous works of art collected by the Umiliati.
  • Explore Piazza del Duomo, located in the heart of the historic centre, and the Baptistery.
  • Have refreshments and take breaks at some places.
