Walk Through Rio de Janeiro's Historic Highlights
Visit the Selarón Steps. Continue to Floriano Square, known as Cinelândia, and admire several famous buildings from the period when Brazilians were inspired by French architecture, especially the Opera House, the Fine Arts Museum, and the National Library - the three most famous landmarks in the area.
Walk to the São Sebastião Cathedral and return via Carioca Square, passing in front of the Santo Antônio Monastery and 17th-century churches.
Visit Praça XV de Novembro, a public square in Rio's Centro district. Also see the Candelária Church and follow the Orla Conde to the exterior of the Museum of Tomorrow, a science museum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was designed by the Spanish neo-futuristic architect Santiago Calatrava and built beside the waterfront at Pier Mauá.
