City Tour and Duomo Private Visit
It isn't easy to get to know a city in a few hours, especially if it is rich in history and culture. Our guide will be happy to make you fall in love with Siena and make you feel all its passion for the still strongly rooted traditions in everyday life.
- Begin in front of the Basilica of San Domenico, where the relics of St. Catherine of Siena are kept inside. It continues towards the Sanctuary of the saint, where she lived with her family.
- Pass through narrow streets with panoramic views to arrive in the famous Piazza del Campo, the main square of Siena, where the well-known Palio takes place twice a year. The square is the center of Sienese politics, whose city hall is located inside the Palazzo Pubblico. The Palazzo Pubblico also contains the most important city museum, called the Civic Museum. You can also admire the Fonte Gaia (a fountain), located in Piazza del Campo, and you will discover the history of the mysterious "Bottini", a medieval underground aqueduct excavated in the sandstone.
- Listen to nice anecdotes about the spasmodic search of the Sienese of the river, called “the Diana”.
- Continue going towards the Duomo, the large monumental complex that encloses the Crypt, the Baptistery and the Opera Museum. In front of the Cathedral, there is the Santa Maria della Scala which is the ancient medieval hospital. The ancient hospital is now one of the most important museums in Siena. We will enter the Cathedral to see the wonderful and unique floor and other artworks of incomparable value by Michelangelo, Donatello and Bernini. The tour will end inside the Cathedral.
