The sightseeing begins in front of the City Hall.
We will pass by the City Hall, a Neo-Renaissance building with impressive, elaborate architecture that reflects Hamburg's wealth and prosperity at the time. Just a few steps away, we'll see the remains of Hamburg's first port, the 12th-century Nikolai Fleet.
See the ruins of St. Nikolai Church, which was destroyed during the Second World War. It has been preserved as a memorial to the victims of a war that redefined Western Europe.
Further along the way, we'll see the historic and protected merchants' residences on Deichstraße.
One of the few streets that has remained in its original condition, Deichstraße presents a charming sight and offers plenty of reasons to return for dinner, ice cream, or whiskey tastings. From here, we continue into the 19th-century Warehouse District, now part of the UNESCO World Heritage site, called Speicherstadt, where we may visit a coffee roastery or sample spices in an old spice shop.
The next part of the walk leads into HafenCity, Europe's most significant city planning project. You will learn how modern city planning works and see state-of-the-art architecture.
This tour can end at our new concert hall, the Elbphilharmonie. After learning about its construction history, you can visit the platform to enjoy a fantastic view over the port.
