The itinerary

Day 01

Marrakech Transfer and Trek to Toubkal Refuge

  • Start the hike from Imlil at 1741 m, passing through Achain village, which is famous for its refuge villages, including the Casbah de Toubkal. It was built by an Englishman and a local villager.
  • Take the path that leads to Armed village, the biggest village in the Imlil Valley.
  • Cross a wide river on the left and begin climbing the mountain toward Chamharouch at 2310 m. Stop for lunch and a break. Then turn right and take the path to Dodmert. Here, the oxygen becomes less dense because you have reached 3000 m. Continue to the Refuge de Toubkal at 3207 m. Spend the first night here to rest and prepare for the second day.

Day 02

Early Morning Ascent to the Toubkal Summit

Wake up early at five o'clock to have breakfast and be ready to leave at 5:30 to climb the highest peak in North Africa. It will take more than three and a half hours to reach the top.

Make your way back, which will take about 4 hours to reach the refuge for lunch. Rest a bit and prepare to return to Imlil by the same route.

  • The hiker should be in good shape. The path is not very difficult, but it is a high-altitude climb.
  • The best season to climb Toubkal is from May to October, depending on the weather. In winter, it must be climbed with crampons.
  • The lack of oxygen affects each person differently.
