Florence Highlights from San Marco to the Oltrarno
- We will meet at Piazza San Marco, in front of the church.
- After a brief introduction to the city, we will walk to Piazza Santissima Annunziata to see the famous Ospedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of Foundlings), designed by the greatest Florentine genius of the Early Renaissance, Filippo Brunelleschi.
- Next, we will go to Piazza del Duomo, the best testimony to Florence's great past splendour, to admire the outstanding Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the octagonal baptistery, and the impressive Brunelleschi dome.
- We will walk through the Medieval district, where we will see the place where Dante, the most famous Italian poet, was born, and arrive at Piazza Signoria, a marvellous outdoor museum. Here, we will take a quick break for an Italian caffé (espresso).
- After this concentrated gulp of energy, we will continue to Ponte Vecchio, the only bridge that survived World War II.
- We will finish the tour among the old palaces, the artisans, and the picturesque streets of the Oltrarno, the district on the "other side of the Arno river" that a famous travel magazine ranked among the "10 of the world's coolest neighbourhoods to visit".
