Cotopaxi National Park and Limpiopungo Lagoon Adventure
Wake up early in the morning and meet your tour guide at your hotel in Quito. Visit one of the most important national parks, Cotopaxi National Park, in the central Andes. Located 86 kilometers from the city of Quito, it offers the opportunity to exchange the panorama of cars and buildings for the Andean páramo and the chuquiraguas, an endemic plant of the highlands.
Travel through the Panamericana Sur, also known as the "Avenida de los Volcanes," where you can see volcanoes such as Atacazo, Corazón, Ilinizas, Pasochoa, and Rumiñahui, among others, before finally reaching the entrance to Cotopaxi National Park.
Start your adventure by driving through the grasslands. Cotopaxi National Park covers more than 33,000 hectares and features various trails, lagoons, rivers, waterfalls, and, of course, the beautiful Cotopaxi Volcano. In this area, you can also see exuberant flora and fauna, with the condor as an icon of the Andes. At Limpiopungo Lagoon (3,830 masl), it is possible to walk for two hours to observe some of the bird species that inhabit the lagoon.
Continue by car to the parking lot at 4,500 masl and then on to the refuge called José Rivas at 4,800 masl. Of course, this last visit is possible depending on your physical condition.
Enjoy lunch at the end at a typical hacienda called La Ciénega, the residence of the French Geodesic Mission that arrived in Ecuador in 1736 to carry out the measurement corresponding to half the world. (LUNCH NOT INCLUDED)
At the end of the tour, you will return to your hotel in Quito.
