From Cusco to Aguas Calientes via the Short Inca Trail
Get picked up from your hotel very early and drive to the Ollantaytambo train station, where you will board the train to kilometre 104 of the railway (approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes).
Start your Short Inca Trail trek.
Along the way, visit the archaeological site of Chachabamba, located amid the jungle vegetation at an altitude of 2,170 meters / 7,120 feet.
After visiting and exploring the site, ascend to the fascinating archaeological center of Wiñaywayna, located at 2,650 meters / 8,700 feet.
You will then enjoy a guided tour of beautiful Wiñaywayna, including its residential, agricultural, and religious zones, which tell the story of the people who lived there through its construction.
At the camp of the same name, enjoy a boxed lunch, which each person carries, and see the porters and hikers who started the Classic Inca Trail 3 days earlier.
Continue walking along an easy path, the Inca flat road, through the semi-tropical forest to Intipunku (the Sun Gate) at 2,720 meters / 8,923 feet, from where you can appreciate the city of Machu Picchu in the distance.
Then, reach the citadel.
After enjoying the classic photographs, descend by bus to the town of Aguas Calientes at 2,040 meters / 6,700 feet, where you will stay and may optionally visit the town's thermal baths.
