Explore the Iconic Sites of Meknes and Volubilis
- Meet your guide at your hotel in Fez and drive to your first destination.
- Reach the ancient city of Meknes. It was the first capital of unified Morocco after centuries of chaos. The walls surrounding it were designed to withstand cannon attacks, unlike those of other medinas. In its time, Meknes was the strongest fortification in all of North Africa.
- Check out the famous Bab Mansour Gate, which was built as a sign of defiance to European powers and designed by a Portuguese captive. This captive served as the architect of Sultan Moulay Ismail and also created the Sahrij Souani Basin and the underground prison.
- Tour the Mausoleum of Sultan Mulay Ismail, the founder of the city.
- Continue on foot to Volubilis. This Roman city dates back to 25 BC. Marvel at some of its original mosaics, which are very well preserved.
