The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and City Sightseeing

  • Meet and greet your Ulaanbaatar tour guide at the international airport and proceed to check in at your hotel.

  • In the afternoon, after lunch, enjoy a leisurely sightseeing tour around the city.

  • Visit Gandan Monastery and the National History Museum, which presents Mongolia's history and culture from prehistoric times to the present day.

  • Enjoy your welcome dinner at a restaurant.

Day 02

Kharkhorum via Hustai National Park

  • Head out of the city early this morning to Kharkhorum via Hustai National Park, which serves as a breeding centre for Takhi reintroduction programmes throughout Mongolia and the Central Asian Steppe. Takhi is the world's last truly wild horse and is critically endangered.

  • Arrive in Kharkhorum in the early afternoon and visit Erdenezuu Monastery.

  • Visit the Karakorum Museum.

Day 03

Journey to Taikhar Rock

  • After breakfast, depart from your camp and head to Taikhar Rock in Arkhangai Province. The rock is a massive granite formation located on the banks of the Tamir River, approximately 130 km away, with a drive of 4-5 hours.

  • Arrive in time for lunch.

  • Follow the Khangai Mountains Pass, passing Arvaikheer, the central town of Arkhangai Province.

  • Stop to explore the town.

  • Reach a camp near the rock in time for lunch.

  • Rest and go for a guided walk in the evening.

Day 04

Khorgo Extinct Volcano and Terkh White Lake

  • Travel northwest to Khorgo-Terkh Special Protected Area, where Khorgo extinct volcano and Terkh White Lake are located, a journey of 4-5 hours. Khorgo is rich in beautiful scenery, including mountains, cliffs, rapid streams, rivers, lakes, extinct volcanoes, green forests, and pastures. Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake is an astonishingly beautiful lake with relatively pure fresh water. Torrents of lava issuing from Khorgo Volcano blocked the north and south Terkh rivers. The lake is 16 km wide, 4-10 metres deep, with its deepest point at 28 metres, and over 20 km in length.

  • Watch the sun go down and enjoy a drink on the shore of the lake.

Day 05

Jargalant Hot Spring

  • After breakfast, continue north and head to Jargalant Hot Spring.

  • Pass over high mountain passes and vast grasslands, then arrive at Jargalant Hot Springs, an ideal point on the overland trail from the heartland to Lake Khuvsgul in the north. The spring generates natural underground water that is beneficial for health, and the ger camp offers outdoor baths for tourists.

Day 06

Journey to Khuvsgul Lake

  • Enjoy breakfast and set off northwards to Khuvsgul Lake, known as the second cleanest lake in Asia. The water is crystal clear, allowing you to see the bottom of the lake, and it is surrounded by mountains and deep forest.

  • Discover the surroundings and enjoy the wilderness and the lovely lake views.

Day 07

Reindeer People's Village Visit

  • Visit the village of Reindeer people to find out about the lives of local people.

Day 08

Return to Ulaanbaatar and Folk Performance

  • Ride to Murun town for your flight to Ulaanbaatar.

  • Check in to your hotel and enjoy a traditional folk music and dance performance.

Departure from Ulaanbaatar

  • After breakfast, proceed to the airport for your onward flight.
