The itinerary

1
Day 01

Arrival in Ulaanbaatar and City Sightseeing

  • Meet your Mongolian guide at the international airport of Ulaanbaatar and transfer to your accommodation, located very close to the Parliament House and Chingis Khan Square.

  • After lunch, enjoy a leisurely afternoon sightseeing around Ulaanbaatar.

  • Visit the Gandan Monastery and the National History Museum.

  • In the evening, attend a welcome dinner at a restaurant.

  • Rest for the night at your accommodation.

Day 02

Flight to Dalanzadgad and Hike in Eagle's Valley

  • Start your day with an early breakfast.

  • Fly to Dalanzadgad, located at the centre of the South Gobi Province.

  • Make your way to Eagle's Valley, a deep and narrow gorge in the Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park. Although this area is considered a hot and dry desert, Eagle's Valley is notable for a deep ice field that stays frozen year-round.

  • Hike through the valley, keeping an eye out for wild sheep and goats grazing on the cliff walls.

  • Rest overnight at your accommodation.

Day 03

Khongor Sand Dunes and Nomadic Encounters

  • Start your day with an early breakfast.

  • Make your way to the Khongor Sand Dunes. The dunes rise to a staggering 200 metres above the valley floor with razor-sharp edges and extend over an area between 2-20 km in width and 180 km in length. Before sunset, climb to the highest dunes and take in the surrounding desert landscape.

  • Visit a herders' family and experience their nomadic lifestyle.

  • Ride a camel. The Mongolian camel is a Bactrian camel with two humps and is very comfortable to ride.

  • Stay at a traditional ger camp, feast on a Mongolian dinner, and enjoy the sound of the dunes as you rest for the night.

Day 04

Bayanzag and the Flaming Cliffs

  • Start your day with an early breakfast.

  • Drive to Bayanzag Province. Bayanzag, also known as the Flaming Cliffs, is where the first nest of dinosaur eggs was found in 1922 by an American expedition led by Roy Chapman Andrews. The red-coloured cliffs of the region are very imposing from a distance and are particularly fiery in the light of the setting sun.

  • Explore Bayanzag with your tour guide.

  • Return to the site just in time for dinner and rest overnight at the ger camp.

Day 05

Gorkhi-Terelj National Park and Nomadic Life

  • After breakfast, transfer to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, located right in the middle of the Khentii Mountain Range.

  • Settle into your room at another ger tourist camp in Terelj.

  • After lunch, visit a local nomadic family and experience traditional dairy products and a horse ride.

  • Visit Turtle Rock, an interesting natural rock formation.

  • Enjoy your family-style dinner served in the evening and rest overnight in a ger.

Day 06

Return to Ulaanbaatar via the Genghis Khan Statue

  • Start the day early and begin your journey to Ulaanbaatar.

  • On the way, visit the statue of Genghis Khan, currently the biggest equestrian statue in the world, and continue to Ulaanbaatar.

  • After lunch in Ulaanbaatar, visit the Gobi cashmere factory store and an antique shop.

  • Attend a traditional Mongolian folk art performance.

  • Enjoy a farewell dinner and rest at your Ulaanbaatar hotel.

Day 07

Departure from Ulaanbaatar

  • Have breakfast at your hotel.

  • Head to the airport for your flight.
