10-Day Morocco History Tour with Sahara Camp and Chefchaouen

Arrive at Casablanca International Airport and get picked up by your Moroccan tour guide.

Visiting Rabat is a good opportunity to travel through time. Rabat has two sides to it: a historic one and a modern one. As you stroll through this city, it will unveil both faces, allowing you to see the historic part of the capital, including the Mausoleum, the Hassan Tower, and the Oudaya Kasbah.

Then, walk through the wide and modern streets of the new city to pass by the parliament and the green gardens.

Start your journey to the heart of the blue pearl of Morocco, Chefchaouen. Situated in the Rif Mountains, it represents a popular tourist destination because of its proximity to Tangier and the Spanish enclave. Founded in 1471 as a small fortress, which still exists to this day, by Moulay Ali Ben Moussa Ben Rached El Alami, it is one of the most visited cities in Morocco.

Chefchaouen is also considered a popular shopping destination, as it offers many native handicrafts that are not available elsewhere in Morocco, such as wool garments, woven blankets, and the goat cheese native to that area. This blue town is a delightful escape, distinguished from other Moroccan cities by its palette of blue and white buildings. Wander around its fascinating blue streets.

Get picked up and head to Volubilis, the Roman ruins dating to 25 BC, where some of the original mosaics are very well preserved, as well as Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, the village holding the Mausoleum of the very first Muslim Sultan in Morocco as well as the Maghreb.

Continue to Meknes, the Ismaili capital of Morocco, which was built by the current dynasty, the Alaouites, as their very first capital in their early days as unifiers of Morocco. Its walls were built to sustain the cannons of the local and regional powers seeking to seize control of Morocco. See the famous gate, Bab Mansour, which was designed by a Portuguese captive in Meknes. This captive served as the architect of Sultan Moulay Ismail, designing the Sahrij Souani Basin.

Then, visit the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum, the founder of the city. Once your tour is over, head east to Fes, where you will be spending the night.

Get picked up by your Moroccan tour guide from your hotel around 9:30 AM and spend good quality time away from the hustle and bustle of the narrow streets and crowded places. Visit the beautiful panoramic views of old Fes and its tremendous, fascinating gates.

First, visit the fascinating Royal Palace, Dar Al Makhzen, where you will see its marvellous entrance gates and giant brass knockers made by special artisans.

Discover the spectacular golden doors, beautifully painted ceilings, and intricate mosaic work.

Proceed to The Mellah, the Jewish quarter of Fes, to feel its rich history and take in the spectacular architecture.

Visit the Aben Danan Synagogue and the antique boutiques before strolling through its wide central square, where you can find every sort of entertainment.

Next, move to the stunning Jnane Sbil gardens to get some pure air away from the noise of crowded streets. Wander through the green landscapes to see the most charming trees and roses, and the captivating central fountains made with beautiful, unique Moroccan tiles representing the magical Moroccan charm hidden in every corner of the old city.

Reach the famous El Batha Palace, the 19th-century royal palace that was converted into a museum in 1916, with your Moroccan tour guide.

Visit the ancient museum to see some excellent collections of traditional Moroccan arts and crafts.

Afterwards, continue to the southern tower of Fes, Borj South, where you will take the most magical panoramic pictures of the Old Medina of Fes from the high hills and enjoy the captivating view of the green landscape of Fes city.

Proceed to one of the cooperatives of artistic Moroccan traditional ceramics, pottery, and spectacular tiles before heading to the Merenids Tombs, where you will discover the historical and spiritual sides of the authentic city.

Finally, visit Bab Boujloud, the magnificent blue entry of Fes Medina, with splendid Moroccan ceramics and outstanding marble work.

Return to your hotel.

Start travelling to Merzouga via Ifrane and Midelt. During this journey, experience glimpses of the Middle Atlas and High Atlas mountains. During today's trip, get a great glimpse of the lakes, high cedar forests, and the white peaks of the Atlas Mountains.

Travel through the Tizi n' Talghamt Pass to Midelt and along the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rocks.

Then, continue along the luxuriant Ziz Valley, stopping for panoramic views along the way for an opportunity to take pictures of the biggest oasis in North Africa. Drive through welcoming Berber villages to Erfoud throughout the journey.

Arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dune line to meet your desert guide and start your camel trek across the sand dunes to sleep under the stars in a deep desert camp. Attend their daily parties around a campfire, where you will have an exotic dinner with the locals.

Wake up early to catch the marvellous sunrise from the stunning Saharan dunes before heading to Boumalne Dades, positioned at the periphery of a desert plateau at the outlet of the upper Dades Valley. Along the way, you will stop by El Khetarat, a natural reserve water system for the locals. For an internal visit of the sites, an extra charge may be applied.

Continue to Tinghir, where you will visit the groves and then head into the Todra Gorge. The limestone cliffs seem like an opening carved through the Todra Assif, which has spectacular peaks diving to the bed of the river. The peaks rise up to 300 meters above the Todra, which meanders from its source in the High Atlas Mountains. Before getting to Boumalne Dades, and as an additional surprise, stop by some mesmerizing sights of the surrounding desert.

Head through the Dades Valley to arrive in Morocco's Valley of Roses, Kalaat M'Gouna, which is home to roses supplying the majority of Morocco's perfume needs.

Then, travel past the Skoura palm oasis and drive towards Ouarzazate, a city also called the Hollywood of Morocco and Africa, where countless films and shows have been shot. Among these films are Lawrence of Arabia, Jesus of Nazareth, and Gladiator.

Afterwards, make a stop to discover more about the Kasbah Aït Benhaddou. Once you are done with this exotic tour of some of the best sightseeing in the Moroccan desert, head to Marrakech, where you will be spending the night, via Tichka Pass.

Start by exploring Marrakech, or the Red City of Morocco. Your Moroccan tour guide will ensure that you see the most important places of historical and cultural interest, including the Saadian Tombs, the palaces of El Bahia and El Badi, and the Jewish quarter known as The Mellah.

Sightsee the famous square of Jamaa El Fna, a folk gathering place for locals and natives seeking spicy street food and entertainment.

Enjoy lunch at a restaurant near the square and then visit Majorelle Gardens, the Menara, and the Koutoubia.

Return to your hotel.

Move to your next destination, Essaouira, three hours from Marrakech, with many cultural and natural sightseeing opportunities to offer.

Stop on the way at this fabulous spot with tons of argan trees. You will also see plenty of goats climbing all around the trees, which creates a funny yet interesting view depending on the weather or the presence of the shepherds.

Proceed to the sunlit pedestrian main square, where you can enjoy a coffee or mint tea. Then, walk through the Skala.

Enjoy the fishing port of the city, which offers a breathtaking view of the Portuguese ramparts. Fresh fish and mouth-watering seafood are always available in case you want a taste of it. Essaouira is full of local musical instruments, as well as unique and exotic jewellery markets. During your tour, you will get the chance to enjoy this charming artist colony around its lovely white-washed and blue-shuttered houses, numerous galleries hidden throughout the streets of the old part of the city, and thuya wood workshops.

Drive back to Marrakech for overnight.
