The Santo Domingo Church and Monastery were built upon the Incan foundations of the Qoricancha Temple, where Inti, the Incas' Sun God, was worshipped, and some of its original walls are still preserved. This is also the place where the great Inti Raymi celebration begins every 21st of June, in honour of Inti during the Winter Solstice.
