Explore the Botanical Garden, a unique green space inaugurated in 1808 by Dom João VI, the then king of Brazil. Covering a total area of 137 hectares, with 54 hectares of cultivated land, the park is recognised as a living museum with about 9,000 plant species from around the world.
Admire the imperial palms and giant Amazonian water lilies. From the elegantly landscaped Parque Lage nearby, wooded trails lead up from Corcovado Mountain to the Christ the Redeemer statue and the tropical forest of Tijuca National Park. The area also features sophisticated dining spots popular with food enthusiasts.
