Salzburg to Berchtesgaden, Königssee and Obersalzberg
Leave Salzburg along the Salzach River to start the tour, passing by Castle Hellbrunn on the way to the German border with your Austrian tour guide.
Following the Königssee-Ache, continue to Obersalzberg, where the second headquarters of the Third Reich once stood.
The highlight of this tour is the visit to Königssee Lake and Berchtesgaden, set among the steep and imposing mountains of the Bavarian Alps. The most famous of these peaks is the Watzmann.
After a stop, walk through the 11th-century town of Berchtesgaden.
Drive back to Salzburg.
Optional: Visit the Eagle's Nest. Enjoy a 20-minute bus tour to the original building, which holds a great deal of history connected to Hitler's second headquarters. Take the historic elevator to the main building, then walk around the mountain peak for spectacular views of the Alps in Austria and Germany.
Optional: Visit the Salt Mine.
