Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate Highlights
- Set off from Marrakech for Aït Benhaddou at 08:00 am.
- Notice a couple of Berber villages perched in the mountains, with astonishing camouflage that makes them blend into nature.
- Stop at one of the many terraces to stretch your legs and perhaps grab a cup of coffee.
- Continue across the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,160 m) in the High Atlas to reach the ancient village of Aït Benhaddou.
- See the spots where many Hollywood productions such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones were filmed.
- Appreciate a wonderful view of the whole valley from the top of the hill.
- Explore the village and its sites, then enjoy a good meal on a terrace with clear views of the kasbahs.
- Head to Ouarzazate, a city 30 km away from Aït Benhaddou and equally famous in the filmmaking industry.
- Visit the Kasbah of Taourirt, a beautiful and well-preserved construction that holds many heroic stories and ancient history. The entrance fee is 20 DH per person, and you can also pay a local guide for added value and stories about the largest kasbah in Morocco, once home to former Pacha Glaoui, ruler of the region.
- Continue to the Cinema Museum, situated just in front of the previous kasbah. It has a massive collection of tools, costumes, cameras, VFX techniques, and chambers used to film movies. The entrance fee to the museum is 30 DH per person, and it is also possible to hire a local guide to explain the site.
- Head back to the entrance of the city, where Atlas Film Studios is located.
- Take the road back to Marrakech and arrive around sunset. Your driver will drop you off at your hotel or any place of your choice in the city.
