Agrigento Valley of the Temples Excursion
Have breakfast, then meet your Agrigento guide for a guided tour of the Agrigento Valley of the Temples. The visit can begin from the summit of the temple hills, where the so-called Temple of Hera stands. Built in Doric style in the middle of the 5th century B.C., the temple still preserves no fewer than 25 of its original 34 columns, while the walls of the cella are completely ruined.
Stroll among the centenary olive trees and hundreds of almond trees that blossom in February and turn the valley as white as snow.
Discover another splendid example of Doric architecture at the Temple of Concordia, which survives virtually intact, at least in its structural members, thanks to its later transformation into a basilica with three aisles.
Proceed to the Temple of Hercules, probably the oldest temple in Agrigento, dating back to the 6th century B.C. The columns of this temple are about 17 m tall with a diameter of 4.20 m. Huge human figures made of stone support the weight of the upper part.
Explore the regional archaeological museum, where an optional visit is possible.
