Roman Villa of Piazza Armerina and Caltagirone Discovery
Have breakfast and meet your private driver to enjoy a guided tour of the Roman Villa located in Piazza Armerina. With its almost 4000 sqm of original polychrome marble mosaics, this place represents what is now the best-preserved and most extensive set of in situ Roman mosaics in the world. It has been on the World Heritage List since 1997.
Explore the town of Caltagirone. When you say the name of the town to a Sicilian, he or she will immediately think of a surprising array of colours taking form in objects made of terracotta. This beautiful baroque town became very prosperous during the Arab reign thanks to the marvellous and colourful handmade majolicas.
Witness the Public Garden, your first glimpse of polychrome majolica, and then enjoy a pleasant promenade to see the stunning Scalinata di Santa Maria del Monte, a symbol of Caltagirone with 142 steps, all decorated with majolicas.
See the beautiful baroque facades of noble palaces and churches while wandering through the characteristic alleyways. If interested, visit a ceramic workshop and a terracotta Nativity scene made by a local artist.
