Imlil, Aroumd, and Berber Villages in the High Atlas
Depart by car from Marrakech at around 9 am for an exhilarating 1 hour 30 minute drive through the Moulay Brahim Gorges, past the weekly market and the high valleys, to reach the Berber town of Imlil (1,740 m). Set in the upper foothills of the Western High Atlas Mountains, this trail leads out among streams and paths branching in all directions.
Meet your group and enjoy a warm welcome with a glass of mint tea before setting out on a 2 to 4 km excursion. To the south of the Berber village of Aroumd (Aremd) (1,843 m) lie the hamlets of Ait Souka and Targa Imoula. Witness the jagged Western High Atlas peaks of the Toubkal Massif, including Jbels Aguelzim (3,547 m), Aksouâl (3,847 m), and Adrar Adj (3,122 m).
Stop at Aroumd to visit a village in the Assif Aït Mizane valley. See the houses set near ancient irrigated terraced fields of barley, corn, vegetables, apple trees, and walnut trees.
Continue for another half hour before stopping for a lunch break, which will be served by a Berber family in the village.
Descend down the other side of the valley to return to Imlil.
Return to Marrakech.
