Your arrival at Camp Okavango is highly coordinated and begins the moment you touch down in Botswana.

The Bush Flight Landing

• The Route: You will board a scheduled Safari Air light aircraft charter from either Maun Airport (MUB), a 25-minute flight, or Kasane Airport (BBK), a 70-minute flight.

• The Landing: Your pilot will land directly on the remote, private Nxaraga Airstrip right next to the camp.

Runway Pick-Up

• The Welcome: A professional Camp Okavango safari guide will meet you right on the dirt runway as you step off the plane.

• Luggage: The guide will immediately take over your bags and pack them into the open 4x4 safari vehicle.

Quick Transfer to Camp

• The Drive: It is a brief 5-minute drive through the bush from the airstrip to the lodge entrance.

• Check-In: Upon arrival at the main deck, the lodge team greets you with a cold towel and a welcome drink. You will receive a quick safety orientation before being escorted to your elevated luxury suite.

Critical Luggage Rule

Because of the small size of the bush planes, you must pack in 100% soft-sided duffel bags, with no hard structures or wheels, and follow a strict maximum weight limit of 20 kg (44 lbs) per person, including hand luggage.

Mokoro Excursions: You sit in a traditional dugout canoe while a local guide stands at the stern, using a long pole to push quietly through shallow, reed-lined channels. This is designed for viewing smaller delta species like reed frogs, water lilies, and birds.

Motorboat Safaris: You travel in hard-bottom aluminum boats equipped with elevated seating and canvas roofs. These trips cover longer distances along deep channels and lagoons to spot hippos, crocodiles, and large mammals like elephants crossing the water.

Foot & Land Safaris

• Guided Bush Walks: You take a short boat ride to neighboring islands, where professional guides lead tracking excursions on foot. The focus is on tracking larger game, including elephants, buffalo, and occasionally lions, understanding animal behavior, and learning about native flora.

• Birding: The camp features a secluded bird-viewing hide. The surrounding permanent waters provide access to rare species, including the Pel's Fishing Owl, African Fish Eagle, and Malachite Kingfisher.

• Jetty Activities

Seasonal Fishing: Catch-and-release fishing for Bream, African Pike, and Tiger Fish is available from the boat or directly from the camp docks. Note: Fishing is legally prohibited across Botswana from January to February each year for the breeding season.

Morning Routine & Check-Out

• Final Activity: Depending on your departure flight schedule, you can fit in a final early-morning water safari or bush walk, followed by breakfast.

• Settling Up: You will clear any personal incidental tabs, such as boutique shop purchases or premium imported drinks, at the main lodge office.

Airstrip Transfer

• Baggage Handling: Camp staff will collect your bags directly from your suite and load them onto the vehicle.

• The Drive: Your safari guide will drive you in an open 4x4 vehicle back to the private Nxaraga Airstrip, a quick 5-minute commute.

Onward Bush Flight

• Boarding: Your scheduled Safari Air bush pilot will meet you at the runway, pack your bags into the plane's under-bed pod, and conduct a brief safety check.

• Destinations: Most flights route directly back to Maun Airport (MUB), a 25-minute flight, or Kasane Airport (BBK), a 70-minute flight.
