The itinerary

Day 01

Chonta Canyon and Andean Condor Observation

  • Start the tour at 8 am, taking the highway to Lima with breathtaking mountain views.

  • Visit the Incan ruins of Quillarumiyoc, a moon calendar, and then continue towards the Wilky pass.

  • Drive down to the town of Limatambo for lunch.

  • Drive uphill to the community of Chonta, where you begin the walk to the observation area, arriving by 13:30.

  • Head to the condor viewpoint and stay for at least 2 hours.

  • Return to the control point by 17:30, then drive back to Cusco, arriving by 8 pm.

Know before you go

  • Because this is a new tour in the highlands, and to protect the habitat of the Andean Condor, we cannot organize big groups of more than 15 passengers; otherwise, we may disturb nature.

  • The road to the community of Chonta is narrow and has many curves, so only small vehicles are available. Minibuses or vans are allowed. This conservation area is managed by the Municipality of Limatambo, which is gradually improving access to this pristine area.

  • The price is based on a minimum of 2 passengers.

  • Private tour for 4 passengers: $90.00 in a van.

  • Private tour for 10 passengers: $70.00 in a minibus.
