The itinerary

Day 01

Srinagar to Sonamarg via Dal Lake

  • Spend some time in Srinagar, known for its beautiful gardens, lakes, and houseboats.

  • Experience an iconic shikara ride at Dal Lake or stroll through the Mughal Gardens, unravelling their many beauties along the way.

  • Depart from the city by evening for the drive towards Sonamarg.

  • Arrive at the campsite or guest house in Sonamarg and retreat for an overnight stay.

Day 02

Sonamarg to Nichnai via Shekdur

  • After enjoying a hearty breakfast at the guesthouse, start on a 3-4 km trek from Sonamarg.

  • Reach a roadside eatery to pack all the required commodities for the day. From this point, the trek will be gradual.

  • Continue trekking alongside the Sindh River through maple and pine forests, and be rewarded with stunning views of Sonamarg Valley and its picturesque streams.

  • Arrive at Nichnai and set camp for an overnight stay.

Day 03

Nichnai to Vishansar Lake via Nichnai Pass

  • Start the trek towards Nichnai Pass at around 8:00 AM. On the way, enjoy stunning views of the lush valleys and the untouched beauty of the region.

  • Cross the river and continue hiking along its banks.

  • Arrive at Nichnai Pass, or Vishansar Berry, located 13,500 m above sea level.

  • Witness and enjoy the meticulous beauty of the pass and the snow-covered peaks all around it before retreating to camp for an overnight stay.

Day 04

Acclimatisation Day in Vishansar

  • This day will be reserved for rest and acclimatisation to the weather.

Day 05

Vishansar to Gadsar via Kishasar and Gadsar Pass

  • Wake up to a chilly morning and witness Kishansar Peak casting its reflection on the azure lake waters.

  • Start the trek for the day towards the lakeside and reach Kishansar Peak, situated around 500 ft above the campsite.

  • From here, ascend to the other side of the water reservoir. The trek until this point comprises both easy and tough terrain.

  • Arrive at Gadsar and set camp for an overnight stay.

Day 06

Gadsar to Satsar Across Varied Terrain

  • Begin the day with a walk from the army camp towards the stream. Brace for varied terrain ranging from super steep to flat and even land.

  • Take a short break at Maengandob, which is fringed by mountains.

  • Arrive at Satsar and set camp for an overnight stay.

Day 07

Satsar to Gangabal Twin Lakes

  • Set out early in the morning and trek towards Gangabal. A true test of calibre, this is the day when trekkers will have to push their physical and mental limits and trudge through rock- and boulder-ridden terrain.

  • Pass the last of the Satsar lakes and start hiking downwards for half an hour to arrive at the forest line.

  • Arrive at the Gangabal Twin Lakes and set camp for an overnight stay.

Day 08

Gangabal to Naranag and Return to Srinagar

  • After breakfast, start trekking from the Gangabal camp.

  • Amble along grassy land dotted with yellow flowers and pine forest before starting your descent towards Naranag, the last leg of the trek.

  • Reach Naranag Village in Ganderbal District and spend some time here. Trekkers can make an optional visit to the Naranag Temple.

  • Drive back to Srinagar.
