Walk Through the Ribeira and Ruins of Cidade Velha
This walk plunges from a dry, impoverished village up on the escarpment down into the Ribeira of Cidade Velha, passing a few of the old city's important ruins before reaching the main square.
Head to Seward and find mango trees, papaya trees, palm trees, acacias, and mighty baobab trees.
Follow the path and pass several distilleries.
Taste a sample of the grogue, a Cape Verdean alcoholic beverage - an aguardiente made from sugarcane. Many owners enjoy demonstrating how their distillery operates, so feel free to inquire.
At the end of the valley, reach the main square of Cidade Velha.
