Walk Through the Ribeira and Ruins of Cidade Velha

• This walk plunges from a dry, impoverished village up on the escarpment down into the Ribeira of Cidade Velha, passing a few of the old city's important ruins before reaching the main square.

• Head to Seward and find mango trees, papaya trees, palm trees, acacias, and mighty baobab trees.

• Follow the path and pass several distilleries.

• Taste a sample of the grogue, a Cape Verdean alcoholic beverage - an aguardiente made from sugarcane. Many owners enjoy demonstrating how their distillery operates, so feel free to inquire.

• At the end of the valley, reach the main square of Cidade Velha.
