The National Archaeological Museum of Florence, housed in the Palazzo della Crocetta, was built by Giulio Parigi as the residence of Princess Maria Maddalena de' Medici. Today, it preserves important collections and historic artefacts, including masterpieces of funerary sculpture in stone, the large bronze statues of the Chimera, Arringatore, and Minerva, as well as Roman medallions.
The museum also houses finds from excavations across Tuscany, with important Etruscan and Roman remains, as well as collections related to other civilisations. Highlights include an important Egyptian section and Greek vases, many of them found in Etruscan tombs, reflecting the existence of trade across the Mediterranean. You will also see precious grave goods of the Etruscan aristocracy from the area between Populonia and Vulcano on display.
