We start the tour with the Ispinigoli cave near the town of Dorgali. The cave is dominated by an enormous 38-meter-high limestone column, one of the tallest stalactite-stalagmite examples in Europe. Once known as the Virgins' Abyss, the site carries haunting significance, as archaeological research suggests it was probably used by the Phoenicians as a sacrificial well. The experience continues to the Orgosolo Supramonte for tasty, typical Sardinian open-air cooking among the ancient holm oaks, where lunch with the shepherds reveals the genuine flavours of this ancient land, enhanced by the full-bodied local Cannonau wine. On the way back, visit the centre of Orgosolo with its famous murals.
