Explore Otavalo in Imbabura province, 86 km north of Quito, one of Ecuador's most important tourist destinations. Surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers, streams, and springs, this small city is a paradise and is known worldwide for its famous indigenous handicraft market. This full-day tour also takes you through beautiful Andean scenery, with stops at Guayllabamba, Cayambe, Laguna de San Pablo, and Cotacachi.

Day 01

Otavalo Market and Andean Highlands Tour

Departure at 08h00.

  • Explore the colourful town of Otavalo and the most famous Indian fair in South America. The Pan American Highway takes you through spectacular mountain scenery, where you can enjoy impressive views of people and communities as they carry out their daily chores.

  • Stop at Guayllabamba, where you can taste the 'chirimoya' fruit, a speciality of the area. Visit the viewpoint on the road to Cayambe and admire the beautiful valleys and snow-capped mountains surrounding this place, with time for photographs.

  • Visit the viewpoint of Laguna de San Pablo, at the foot of Imbabura volcano.

  • Stroll through the Otavalo Market, also known as Plaza de Ponchos, where a wide variety of handmade indigenous crafts are displayed. It is also possible to visit the rural parish of Peguche and learn more about the local culture and the weaving process of the tapestries.

  • After lunch, continue to the village of Cotacachi, known as the 'music capital of Ecuador.' It is rich in the production of fine leather garments, which are displayed and sold in both small and large shops in the city centre.
