Day 01

Island Safari Lodge, Moremi, Chief's Island and Departure

Day 1: Island Safari Lodge

Arriving at Island Safari Lodge in the afternoon will allow you to relax and enjoy some time by the pool or at the lodge bar and restaurant.

Located on the banks of the Thamalakane River and shaded beneath a huge canopy of large trees, Island Safari Lodge overlooks the river and the floodplain beyond.

Island Safari Lodge is set on a 300-acre private island reserve with several walking trails running through the bush, perfect for a nature walk.

Accommodation includes a buffet dinner. All extras such as beverages and alcohol can be purchased from the lodge bar and restaurant. The guestrooms are comfortable and set in the lodge gardens, with air conditioning, Wi-Fi, and TV.

Day 2: Moremi Game Reserve

For this excursion, we will meet and depart from Island Safari Lodge by 6:00 am. We will head north towards Moremi Game Reserve for approximately 45 km. From this point on, we will begin enjoying the rich and diverse fauna and flora this area is famous for.

We will spend the day exploring this wildlife-rich and diverse area, enjoying the scenery, capturing these moments in our minds, and experiencing photographic opportunities of a lifetime.

We then continue to explore the area for the rest of the day. We arrive in Maun late in the afternoon, where you are welcome to enjoy sunset drinks and dinner at the Island Safari Lodge restaurant.

Day 3: Chief's Island - Deep in the Delta Boating Safari

Departing from Island Safari Lodge after a wholesome breakfast, this trip heads north for 45 minutes on water to an area called the Boro.

The Chief's Island trip explores the waterways and channels of the Okavango by boat, enjoying the rich diversity of fauna and flora this area has to offer. Alternatively, you could experience the day on a mokoro should water levels not permit access by boat. Packed meals are available and can be arranged at an extra cost should you wish to arrange this with us.

Exploring the channels of the Okavango Delta, with its array of aquatic life and breathtaking beauty, allows you to experience the sounds and close encounters with nature.

Day 4: Departure

On this morning, check out after having enjoyed a wholesome breakfast. We can arrange a transfer for you to the airport for your onward travel.

What to bring

For a mobile safari in Botswana, pack practical, layered clothing in neutral colors (khaki, beige, olive), a warm fleece for chilly mornings, sturdy closed-toe shoes, and sun protection. You must bring a high-quality camera, binoculars, a headlamp, and essential personal toiletries in flexible, soft-sided luggage.

Know before you go

  • Campsite setup: You will sleep in comfortable, walk-in canvas tents. Most setups feature camp beds with real linens, a small bucket shower filled by staff, and a private bush toilet.
  • Unfenced wilderness: Because campsites lack fences, wild animals frequently walk right through camp. You must zip your tent at all times and stay inside after dark.
  • Digital detox: Mobile camps are completely off-grid. Prepare to be disconnected, with no Wi-Fi or cell service.
  • Early starts: Days begin early with pre-sunrise wake-up calls, around 5:30 AM, to catch predators at their most active.
  • Game drives: You will spend hours bouncing along uneven tracks in open 4x4 safari vehicles.
  • Camp life: You return to camp for hot meals prepared by the support crew, swapping stories around the campfire.
