3-Day Okavango Delta Mokoro Safari
Day 1 Arrival & Mokoro Transfer into the Delta
Upon arrival at the mokoro station, you will meet your experienced poler (guide), who will brief you on the journey ahead. From here, you will glide silently through the waterways in a traditional dugout canoe (mokoro), offering a peaceful and intimate way to explore the Delta. Keep an eye out for birds, frogs, and other wildlife along the channels.
After approximately 1-2 hours on the water, you will arrive at a remote island where your bush camp will be set up. After settling in, enjoy a guided nature walk, where your guide will introduce you to the smaller details of the Delta ecosystem, including tracks, plants, and possible wildlife sightings.
Dinner will be served around the campfire, followed by an evening under the stars.
Day 2 Walking Safari, Mokoro Training and Sundowner
Wake up early for a guided morning walk during the cooler hours of the day. This is the best time to track animals and observe the Delta as it comes to life. Your guide will share insights into animal behavior, tracking techniques, and the surrounding environment.
In the afternoon, enjoy a fishing activity (seasonal and catch-and-release), followed by a hands-on experience where you will learn how to pole a mokoro yourself under the guidance of your poler. This is a fun and interactive way to connect with the traditional way of navigating the Delta.
Later in the afternoon, head out for a mokoro excursion combined with a short guided walk. As the day comes to an end, enjoy a peaceful sundowner on the water, watching the sunset over the Delta, one of the most memorable moments of the safari.
Return to camp for dinner and storytelling around the fire.
Day 3 Final Walk and Return Journey
Start your final day with an early morning guided walk, taking advantage of the quiet and fresh atmosphere of the Delta. This walk offers another opportunity to track wildlife and appreciate the untouched beauty of the environment. Your guide will deepen your understanding of the ecosystem, from animal tracks to bird calls and plant uses.
After the walk, return to camp for breakfast and begin packing up.
You will then board your mokoro for the return journey through the channels back to the mokoro station. Enjoy the last moments of tranquility as you glide through the reeds and open lagoons.
Upon arrival at the station, your vehicle will be waiting to transfer you back to Maun, marking the end of your unforgettable Okavango Delta mokoro safari experience.
End of tour.
