Mokoro Safari in the Okavango Delta
Exploring the waterways in a traditional dugout canoe (mokoro) is highly recommended and a truly unique experience. Gliding silently through clear waters, purified by waterlilies, reeds, papyrus, and Kalahari sand, gives guests an unparalleled perspective of the delta's abundant wonders. This is the only place where you can track wild animals on foot, as it is prohibited in Botswana's national parks and game reserves.
From Maun, you will be transferred by a 4x4 open-sided vehicle to a place called NG32. Upon arrival, the polers will introduce themselves and then pole you through the waterways. Travelling by mokoro is undeniably one of the best ways to experience the Okavango Delta as you explore its channels at a gentle pace.
After reaching the island, the camp crew will set a table for you to have lunch while they are busy setting up camp. After some siesta time, you will embark on a nature walk where you have the opportunity to track game and get a close-up feel of this unique environment. Birdlife here is spectacular, and on foot you are able to have a much more intense experience of the bush, particularly the flora and fauna that might otherwise go unnoticed. The experience includes wild camping in a remote campsite for 2 nights.
