The Uffizi is one of the oldest and finest galleries in the world, commissioned by Giorgio Vasari for Cosimo I de' Medici in 1560 to bring Florence's 13 city magistracies together in a single location. Completed in 1580 by A. Parigi and B. Buontalenti, it soon became home to Francesco I de' Medici's private gallery of statues and precious art objects, before opening to the public in 1769 under Grand Duke Peter Leopold. Spread across three floors, the museum displays works from the 13th to the 18th centuries, and this tour focuses on the Renaissance paintings of the Medici collection.
