When King Charles of Bourbon decided to build a Royal Palace outside Naples, he wanted to compete with the most beautiful royal residences in Europe. Thanks to the genius of one of the greatest 18th-century architects, Luigi Vanvitelli, the palace became a masterpiece and one of the largest in the world. It is considered a triumph of Italian Baroque, not only for its sumptuous apartments but also for its spectacular park, with fountains, statues, pools, and basins stretching for more than three kilometres, including the English Garden, one of the most important picturesque spaces created in Europe.
