Dashes of pink flamingos meet waterbuck herds at Lake Manyara, while tourHQ has plenty of qualified guides to help travelers discover this famous Tanzanian gem on the edge of the Rift Valley.

Eulogised by Hemingway and colonised by baboons, Lake Manyara National Park extends out over more than 230 square kilometres of land clinging to its position on the edge of the Great Rift Valley in northern Tanzania. The scenic beauty of the park is its biggest draw, with a veritable kaleidoscope of different habitats ranging from riparian woodlands to dusty savannah plains and hot springs that throw up a cacophonous display of wildlife and wondrous nature. The waters of the eponymous lake itself are famed for their substantial population of pink flamingos among the 400 other species of birds that flock to it, which form a rosy haze on the horizon during the rainy season. And while neighbours Serengeti and Ngorongoro lead the way in game viewing, there are oodles of big mammals to seek out around here too, ranging from herds of African buffalo and curious waterbucks, to elusive leopards and wild dogs. Lake Manyara tour guides are also particularly proud of their resident lions, who are famed for their ingenuity in tree climbing like no others anywhere else!
