2 Days Culture tour itinerary for Imlil, Marrakech & Toubkal: Ascend The Highest Peak Of North Africa
Imlil, Marrakech, Toubkal

2
Explore the High Atlas, the greatest mountain range of North Africa, which is perhaps the most beautiful and intriguing part of Morocco. It has retained a remoteness which until recently was almost complete and contains villages where the way of life has changed.
DAY 01
Drive from Marrakech to Imlil and trek to Toubkal Refuge via Aremd & the Mizane Valley
Leaving the city behind we drive south today, towards the craggy peaks and plunging valleys of the Toubkal Massif.
Crossing the Haouz Plain we pass through the tiny town of Asni, from where our road begins to climb towards the foothills of the Massif. Below us, the valley of the Oued Rhirhaia stretches out into the distance and small villages cling to the sides of the steep hills as we meander our way towards the village of Imlil.
Leave our vehicle and, in the company of your Moroccan mountain guide, begin our trek, heading along the Mizane Valley, first towards the village of Aremd and then onto the shrine of Sidi Chamarouch. Built on a moraine spur overlooking the valley floor, Aremd is the largest village in the valley and provides an interesting mix of traditional terraced farming, gites and streets that seem to be permanently gridlocked by goats and cattle.
DAY 02
Summit day! Trek from Nelter Hut to summit (4,167m)
An early start will take you to the top of the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 m. The summit has an incomparable view of the Atlas Mountains, the Sahara Desert and the environments that have enclosed them for centuries. The time you spend at the top will depend on the weather. Normally, you will have enough time for around 30 minutes at the summit and then descend to the refuge for lunch. The day involves around 10 to 12 hours of walking and finishes back in Imlil. Should you have any trouble with being that far above sea level, Brahim and Mohamed are more than happy to spend a couple of days before the ascent journeying through the nearby villages, at a much lower altitude until you acclimatize. This is a common method for preventing altitude sickness and gives you a fantastic opportunity to explore more of the Atlas region.
